Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma is an epic poem recounting the battle between men and women, rich and poor, the powerful and the weak. Scenes transition from one to another abruptly, almost imperfectly, with mismatched audio and stark visual shifts. To put it simply, film analysis implies watching a movie and then considering its characteristics: genre, structure, contextual context, etc. His departing, power-laden epithet, is that she is nothing but a "servant." While I am happy that this film will be available to a wider audience thanks to Netflix, I lament the fact that so many are going to miss out on the theater experience with this one, because my god, what a gorgeous picture.
